About me

Chiropractor Sanna Ollula

I’m Sanna Ollula, a registered chiropractor with the National Supervisory Authority for Welfare and Health (Valvira) and a member of the Finnish Chiropractic Association. I work at Oulun Kiropraktiikka & Fysioterapiakeskus in Raksila, Oulu.

I graduated as a Master of Chiropractic (MChiro) from Wales, United Kingdom. My interest in health and well-being, along with practical work and high-quality education, led me to pursue this field. My university education was comprehensive, including a year of practical training at the university’s chiropractic clinic. Since graduating, I’ve actively updated my skills through various courses and seminars.

Chiropractic

Chiropractic involves examining, diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal disorders to prevent and improve overall health. It takes a holistic approach, recognizing the interconnectedness of the body’s parts. The word ”chiropractic” originates from Greek, meaning ”done by hand,” reflecting the hands-on nature of the treatment. It’s a non-drug therapy that supports the body’s natural healing ability. Currently, chiropractic is the world’s third-largest healthcare profession.

In Finland, chiropractors are regulated by Valvira, requiring 4-6 years of university education. The preclinical education phase of chiropractors is equivalent to medical studies. Chiropractic education isn’t available in Finland and must be pursued abroad.

Treatment

Common treatments include manipulation and mobilization of the spine and limb joints. Attention is also given to how spinal issues may affect nervous system function. I also use various soft tissue techniques such as trigger point therapy, kinesiology taping, and dry needling, along with providing personalized rehabilitation exercises for clients. Each client’s treatment is tailored to their individual needs and preferences.

Conditions treated by a chiropractor

Chiropractic can address various musculoskeletal disorders. Common conditions I see include:

  • Lower back pain and SI joint dysfunction
  • Sciatica, numbness, and disc-related symptoms
  • Neck and shoulder pain
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Jaw pain
  • Thoracic spine issues
  • Facet joint restrictions and lumbago
  • Dizziness
  • Limb pain, e.g., shoulder pain
  • Pregnancy-related and postpartum pain
  • Sports injuries and overuse syndromes

Who can benefit from chiropractic care

Chiropractic care is suitable for individuals of all ages and fitness levels, including during pregnancy. While I have limited experience with infants and very young children, I prefer clients to be over 5 years old. There is no upper age limit.

Many athletes utilize chiropractic services to optimize nervous system function, enhance performance, and prevent injuries.
Previous spinal or joint surgeries or other interventions aren’t obstacles to chiropractic care. It’s effective both independently and in conjunction with other therapies. If necessary, I refer clients to other healthcare professionals.

Chiropractic care can be beneficial even without specific complaints; awareness of one’s body helps prevent problems and maintain well-being.

If unsure whether chiropractic could benefit you, feel free to reach out for an assessment. If it turns out I’m not the best option for you, I’ll help you find the right treatment.

At the clinic

During the initial visit

I conduct interviews, examinations, and diagnoses, and provide treatment if appropriate. I often prescribe home exercises to support treatment.

Please arrive a bit early to your appointment to fill out the medical history form. If you have any medical reports, X-rays, or MRI scans, please bring them with you.

The initial visit is scheduled for 50 minutes, with the latter part used for -recording patient information.

During follow-up visits

I treat the client and keep track of treatment progress.

The number of follow-up visits varies depending on the individual. Generally, more frequent and longer-standing problems require more treatment sessions to achieve lasting results. Initially, the aim is to provide more intensive treatment, followed possibly by maintenance care. When a client identifies factors that worsen symptoms, they can schedule preventive follow-up appointments as needed.

Follow-up visits are scheduled for 30 minutes, with the latter part used for recording patient information. If treatment requires it, longer appointments are scheduled based on individual needs.
